It is said that a normal human being spends one third of their life in bedroom. Hence it is important that this room should be warm, cozy and comfortable so that the person using the room should feel like spending time there. The bedroom décor has undergone vast changes in the past few years with respect to color, design etc.

When it comes to color, even though neutral is still the preferred one, bold colors are also being used to a large extent. Colors like shades of blue, purple and green are very popular. In some cases, the entire room including the ceiling is painted in bold colors. The use of such bold colors is accentuated by neutral colored furniture and accessories. White furniture set with white beds, white cabinet, dressing table etc is getting more popularity.

Wall art inspired by nature, plants, flowers etc provides a refreshing look to the room.

World Environment Day and the contribution of furniture industry

Today, June 5th, is celebrated as World Environment Day. People all over the world celebrate this day to create positive environmental action. This celebration was started by the United Nations way back in 1972 and is still celebrated all over the world.

This year’s theme of World Environment Day is “Green Economy”. A Green Economy is one which significantly reduces environment risk through low carbon emission and enhanced energy. Now the question arises as to what is the role of furniture industry in creating a green environment. The answer is simple. Use more environmentally friendly material to manufacture the finished products. Whether it is the wood for making furniture or paint used to provide finishing touch, make sure that it is made of eco-friendly substance. Using wood that is bio degradable is the best way to contribute to our environment.

We, at Dooley’s Furniture, makes sure that our Hampton White Painted Furniture series is made of timber which is sustainable and sourced from managed plantations. Through the use of this wood we are creating environmental awareness and contributing our part to the “Green Economy”.

Decorating home in contemporary style - A quick look

Contemporary style of interior décor refers to décor style that is developed in latter half of 20th century. It is characterized by its simplicity, texture and clean lines. Here the importance is given to space rather than things. Use furniture and accessories to make a bold statement.

While decorating a house in contemporary style, one needs to pay attention to four aspects- color, furniture, lighting and fabric.

Color: Contemporary style relies heavily on neutral colors like cream, white, brown etc. If the walls are painted in neutral color, then go in for bold colored accessories. On the other hand if it is painted in bold color, better go for neutral colored accessories.

Furniture: Contemporary style furniture is made of light colored wood and features clean lines and smooth surfaces without any carvings or embellishments. Frosted or clear glass furniture also falls under the contemporary style. Furniture should be minimum and more importance should be given to space.

Lighting: Floor lamps and table lamps with metallic finish and straight lines are used in contemporary style of décor. Color can be provided in the form of shades. Spot lights are used to project art work or wall décor.

Fabrics: Furniture is upholstered in silk, cotton, jute or wool. Neutral colors like black, cream or white furniture are common. If at all bold colors and geometric shapes need to be incorporated, the same can be done in pillows or throws.

“Less is More” is the motto of contemporary style of décor. Try to bring in more space by using bold and big designs and patterns. Do away with cute and small stuffs.

Wall Paper- The Latest Trend in Home Décor

Home Décor is an art. It involves mixing and matching of furniture and various other accessories to create the most stunning room. A very important aspect of home décor is wallpaper decoration. It involves pasting one or all the walls of a room with colored or patterned papers to enhance the look of the room.
Wall Papers have been in use as a décor item for a long time. The earlier trend in wall paper decoration was to decorate all walls of a room with the same wall paper. The patterns in these papers varied from simple flowers to geometric patterns.

However the latest trend is to decorate just one wall with wallpaper and paint rest of the walls in a matching color. If the room is small, it is better to use light colored wall papers with small prints to make the room look bigger. On the other hand, for bigger rooms one can go in for dark colored wall papers with bold prints.

The color of furniture also matters a lot while selecting wall paper. Here also the rule of contrast applies. For instance, one can hardly imagine dark wallpaper in a bedroom. But white beds against black wall paper can look stunning. Here the trick is in using beautiful wall décor to accentuate the dark look like photo frames, wall clock etc. Using matching white bedside tables can also bring in that special effect.

Whatever be the type and color of wallpaper, make sure that it goes well with the theme of the room and the general mood of the people using the room.
